John Ward (1571 - 1638)

An unusually competent composer and one to whom
the content of his songs was as important as the music
for them (unlike many of his contemporaries!). The
example, "Come, Sable Night" is possibly his finest
piece and certainly one of the loveliest of all the
madrigals published in the period. For six voices,
it requires considerable professionalism and skill
to render accurately.
