#47 in CGR Collection: "MY MAN JOHN"

"Milady's Maid, Mary, having broke the handel of her Haire Broome, did entreat of Milord's Man, John,
that he should fit it with a new one. John did try but was unable to whyttle the end correctly to fit the
hole, and thus it kept falling out. After many tries, John professed himself defeated and refused to try any
further, which saddened Mary."

Possibly the best known and certainly one of the best loved catches with a strong catch line and a
memorable melody, although the rests give even experienced singers some difficulty at times.

By Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695) whose genius was recognized by his peers and without whose contributions
the Catch Club would not have come into existence. R.I.P. (doubtful, but nonetheless a pretty sentiment.)
